Temporary Health Insurance Cover

Short-Term Travel Health Insurance plans will offer much of the same protection available under an annual policy, with the major difference being the fact that you are limited for the amount of time you can remain on a plan. While coverage in your home country (or country of nationality) is limited to 6 weeks per 180 days and only applies in the event of significant life-threatening emergencies, this type of health insurance coverage gives you the peace-of-mind needed to know that you will have the support you need in a worst-case scenario.

Important Exclusions and Restrictions

While the aim of short term travel health insurance is to provide you with robust medical protection at an affordable price, there are some important exclusions that should be noted prior to the purchase of a policy.

Waiting Period: There is a waiting period of 14 days applied to all new claims unless you hold an existing health insurance policy immediately prior to commencing a short-term health insurance plan. Please note if you were still in your home country when starting your insurance, coverage can't effectively start until you leave your home country. But, by being still in your home country during the insurance start date you will be able to skip the waiting period as soon as you start your trip.
Home Country: Treatment in your country of nationality is limited to 6 weeks per 180 days and only applies in the event of significant life-threatening emergencies.
Maternity Waiting Period: Maternity and Pregnancy benefits only apply to individuals who have been on the plan for at least 10 months. Learn more about this condition by clicking Maternity Waiting Periods.
Pre-existing medical conditions: Any medical conditions present within 6 months of the start of the insurance will not be covered under this policy. Learn more by clicking Pre-Existing Medical Conditions.
Preventative Care: Preventative medical treatment, including vaccinations, is not covered under this policy.
Medical Tourism: If medical treatment is the reason for your travel, that treatment will not be covered under this policy.
Non-Medical Risks: Trip Delay, Loss of Luggage, or other non-medical benefits are not provided by this policy.
Professional or Dangerous Sports: While sports injuries are covered under short term travel health insurance, this does not apply if the participant is a professional athlete or the sport has been deemed "dangerous." Please check the policy terms and conditions to understand whether your planned activities will be covered.
Drug and Alcohol Expenses: This insurance does not cover any medical treatment as a consequence of drug taking or excessive consumption of alcohol.
Offshore Insurer: This insurance is provided by an insurance company that is not regulated by the Hong Kong Insurance Authority.
